New Delhi: A 13-year-old school girl Lalita Prasida Sripada from Odisha has been honoured by technology giant Google. Lalita Prasida Sripada received the Community Impact Award at the Google Science Fair 2015 for her theory to reduce water pollution. She was the only winner from India at the Google Science Fair 2015.

At the age when most of students engage to solve exercises of study-books, she ponders over resolving global issues. Lalita has given cost-effective solution to clean water.

Her project aims to clean waste water by flowing through different layers of corn cobs like long pieces of corn cobs, small pieces of corn cobs, powdered corn cobs, activated charcoal made from corn cobs and fine sand. This is useful for immobilizing the contaminants in domestic and industrial effluents, and in ponds, reservoirs and water tanks.
The Community Impact Award is given to a project that makes a practical difference in the participants' community by addressing environmental, health or resource challenge. Lalita won USD 10,000 and a year-long mentorship from a reputed US magazine.
