"The process of declassification of files relating to Netaji will begin on January 23, 2016, Subhas Babu's birth anniversary," PM Modi announced after a meeting with Netaji's family on Wednesday here at 7RCR.
"There is no need to strangle history. Nations that forget their history lack the power to create it," the PM said, adding, "I told Subhas Babu's family members - please consider me a part of your family. They shared their valuable suggestions with me."
PM Modi also told Netaji's family that he will request foreign governments to declassify files available with them.
The PM said he would not only write to them, but also take up the matter during his meetings with foreign leaders, beginning with Russia in December.
Expressing happiness over the meeting, the PM said "It was a privilege to welcome family members of Subhas Babu; We had a remarkable and extensive interaction."
"It was a very positive, an excellent meeting with PM Modi," Ardhendu Bose, Subhas Chandra's nephew said after the meeting.
